Auditory training refers to guided listening practice for people with hearing loss who want to improve their abilities to understand speech in the real world. It is part of a larger concept, aural rehabilitation, that includes counseling and education regarding hearing loss and communication strategies. Most audiologists agree that cochlear implant (CI) recipients can benefit from aural rehabilitation, but many don't have the time or resources to provide directed auditory training sessions. This website is a repository of information and resources for listening practice for patients and practioners. A directed aural rehabilitation program with a professional (usually a speech/language pathologist or audiologist) is the best way to get started. Some people may prefer to practice on their own at home using a computer or laptop, tablet, or Iphone. Others may prefer to practice listening to a communication partner's live voice instead.Â
